The incident began around 3:24 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, when Hartford Police were notified by the Farmington Police Department, that two individuals they had active felony arrest warrants for, were operating a carjacked vehicle in the south end of Hartford, said Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert.
Hartford Police assisted Farmington Police in canvassing the area. At approximately 3:24 pm, the suspect vehicle was observed entering the gas station at 867 Wethersfield Avenue.
The male suspect, identified as David Michael O’Brien, 30, of Farmington, entered the business. Detectives entered the business to make contact with O'Brien, Boisvert said.
Upon seeing the detectives, O'Brien fled to the rear of the store, pulled out a knife, and began repeatedly stabbing himself in the neck.
Detectives and officers on the scene immediately began life-saving measures. An ambulance responded to the scene and transported O'Brien to the hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition, Boisvert said.
The female suspect, identified as Lauren Ruth Murphy, 31, was located inside the vehicle and was taken into custody.
The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions responded and assumed the investigation.
